Official Akira Bike Races Through Japan

It took Masashi Teshima of Fukuoka, Japan nearly seven years and $121,000 to create this replica of Shotaro Kaneda’s bike from Akira, but the time was certainly well spent, considering that it’s now the only replica recognized by the creator of Akira, Katsuhiro Otomo.

Teshima is currently in the process of touring the bike throughout Japan to raise money for children’s autism. He’s taken the bike from his hometown of Fukuoka to Osaka and Kobe. His final stop will be Tokyo, where the bike will take its place at an interactive exhibition created for Katsuhiro Otomo. Best of all? Fans can board the bike and photograph themselves with it - plus, proceeds from the exhibit will go to benefit the victim’s from last year’s earthquake.
